Ship raised alarm, increased speed and took evasive manoeuvres. The pirates fired upon the ship with automatic guns and later aborted the attack. No injuries to crew. Ship sustained some damages. The Liberty Sun, a U.S.-flagged cargo ship bound for Mombasa, Kenya, was attacked Tuesday by Somali pirates, 300 miles off the coast of Somalia. The pirates never boarded the ship while crew members barracaded themselves in the engine room after taking RPG and small weapons fire.  The ship is being escorted by the USS Bainbridge.
The source could provide no details on where the vessel was attacked but said it is suspected the pirates were based on a mother ship somewhere in the area.

The pirates were armed with automatic weapons and RPG. One speed boat with six pirates attempted to board but vessel took evasive manoeuvres and boat retreated.
