Eight pirates in two speedboats armed with guns and RPG chased a container ship underway. Ship raised alarm, increased speed and took evasive manoeuvres. The pirates fired upon the ship with automatic guns and later aborted the attack. No injuries to crew. Ship sustained some damages. There was one pirate mother vessel, 10 - 15 meter length observed at 3 nm from the ship.

A passing vessel relayed sighting of one large skiff loaded with fuel tanks towing two smaller skiffs in position 00:36S - 049:14E - course 300 – speed 3 knots. All vessels to remain vigilant and stay clear of the suspicious boats.

Pirates in a skiff armed with automatic weapons chased a bulk carrier and opened fire on it. Pirates boarded and hijacked it with the 21 crew members as hostage and are now proceeding to an undisclosed location in Somalia.

The Liberty Sun, a U.S.-flagged cargo ship bound for Mombasa, Kenya, was attacked Tuesday by Somali pirates, 300 miles off the coast of Somalia. The pirates never boarded the ship while crew members barracaded themselves in the engine room after taking RPG and small weapons fire. The ship is being escorted by the USS Bainbridge.
The source could provide no details on where the vessel was attacked but said it is suspected the pirates were based on a mother ship somewhere in the area.

Two speed boats approached a container ship underway from the stbd bow at a distance of 4 nm. The pirates were armed with automatic weapons and RPG. One speed boat with six pirates attempted to board but vessel took evasive manoeuvres and boat retreated. The speed boats attacked the vessel again and fired RPG, which resulted in slight damage to the vessel.
